Jérémy is a DevOps programmer who helps us develop mobile applications for field data entry and tools to integrate our field data to our central database as part of the CABO project.

Johanna is a botanist and evolutionary biologist who uses phylogenies to understand the ecology and evolution of plants. As part of the CABO project, she is currently studying the evolution of leaf spectra using phylogenetic comparative methods. In her free time, she enjoys hiking and playing board games.
Myriam is exploring whether we can map canopy tree species using high-resolution UAV RGB imagery using deep learning approaches. She will evaluate model transferability throughout a growing season, and assess whether tree species are better distinguished in some periods (e.g. during peak autumn colours).
Guillaume is a Research Professional at the Quebec Centre for Biodiversity Science (QCBS) and works part-time for CABO. He is developing a web portal and API for sharing the CABO field data.
Carole is responsible for data managing and sharing for our CABO project. She has helped to develop the CABO Data Policy, and ensures that everyone follows it. She also acts as the link between our CABO project and the Canadensys project.
Shan is a physiological ecologist who seeks to understand the diverse ways that plants interact with their light environment. As part of CABO, he aims to describe how and why plants vary in their optical properties. Outside of work, he likes to play the viola, read strange novels, and take care of his plants.

As part of the CABO project, Florence studies the influence of evolutionary history on the spectral diversity of Quebec’s trees. She seeks to uncover the processes behind their spectral differences using phylogenetic comparative methods. She is rarely seen at work without a cup of tea.
Juliana is a biologist from Bogotá, Colombia, interested in ecosystem ecology. As part of CABO, she studies the ability of leaf spectra to discriminate the invasive common reed (Phragmites australis) from co-occurring species, and whether species spectral differentiation varies over a growing season.
Rosalie’s master’s project is part of the CABO research project. Her project assesses our ability to differentiate temperate forest tree species with spectra and tests the degree to which environmental factors, phenology, leaf functional traits and taxonomic identity explain spectral variation. In her spare time, she is either gardening or rock climbing.

Vlad studies the roles that mycorrhizal fungi play in tree establishment into herbaceous vegetation. In particular, he is exploring ecological differences between ectomycorrhizal and arbscular mycorrhizal fungi. He is also the lab piano virtuoso.
Xavier’s doctoral project aims to assess the predictive quality of the relationship between root functional trait variation, soil fertility and plant species distribution. To understand this relationship, Xavier is using various study sites around the globe representing strong natural fertility gradients that support high plant diversity.
Alexis seeks to better understand the impact of plant-soil interactions on the dynamics and functioning of terrestrial ecosystems. To explore the aboveground-belowground linkages, he combines a wide variety of approaches ranging from greenhouse and field experiments to bioinformatics and modelling.
Anna is an ecologist with particular interests in “plant spectral biodiversity”. She studies the biological and ecological mechanisms underlying spectral differences among plant species based on their functional traits and phylogenetic relationships. In her spare time, she likes dancing and being outdoors (a sure sign of winter approaching is a pair of cross-country skis in her office). As the Lab Coordinator, Sabrina ensures that everything runs as smoothly as possible. She coordinates research activities, both in the field and in the lab, takes care of new hires, manages equipment and supplies. She holds a B.Sc. in Geography and a D.E.C. in bio-ecology.
Etienne is responsible for the scientific direction of the research group. He supervises all graduate students, postdocs and employees. He is Associate Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences of the Université de Montréal, a member of the Institut de recherche en biologie végétale, and holds the Canada Research Chair in Plant Functional Biodiversity. He also heads the Canadian Airborne Biodiversity Observatory (CABO). Outside of work he enjoys spending as much time as possible exploring the outdoors with his family, often on bicycles.
